Minister Augusto Nardes Represents TCU at International Meeting on Environmental Crimes in Vienna

Minister Augusto Nardes of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) represented the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS) at the second meeting of the intergovernmental group of experts on crimes that affect the environment, held from February 23 to 27 in Vienna, Austria.

The meeting brought together representatives from various countries to discuss strategies to combat environmental crimes and violations related to the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), with the aim of strengthening international cooperation and improving mechanisms to address practices that harm the environment.

During the meeting, Nardes highlighted the importance of auditing in protecting natural resources and reaffirmed Brazil's commitment to the environmental agenda. According to the minister, combating environmental crimes requires joint action among nations and the continuous exchange of information.

Nardes also presented a proposal for a coordinated audit in environmental crimes and trafficking, featuring customized methodologies and governance indicators. It is essential that we work together with all nations to monitor and assess the global situation of transnational crimes, he added, underscoring the importance of a collaborative approach to addressing these complex challenges.
