The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) participated in the second session of the course “Claves de la Igualdad de Género para Instituciones Públicas”, organized by the UNDP Regional Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean. The virtual event, held on May 28, gathered specialists and representatives from public institutions across the region involved in the UNDP Gender Equality Seal, to discuss achievements and ongoing challenges in promoting gender equality.

During the session, TCU auditor Marcela Timóteo and senior gender consultant Vivian Souza shared the institution’s experience in implementing the UNDP Gender Equality Seal. Since joining the initiative in March 2024, TCU has gained recognition for its innovative efforts, such as creating a participatory Action Plan with over 70 initiatives aligned with the Seal’s 40 benchmarks and publishing an implementation strategy open for public consultation.

A key highlight of TCU’s participation was its presentation on gender-responsive budgeting. Despite the challenge of allocating over 79% of its institutional budget to personnel costs, TCU has been developing methodologies to incorporate gender perspectives into resource allocation. Recently, it conducted introductory training and practical workshops with staff from the Department of Budget, Finance and Accounting (SecFinanças) and the Department of Human Resources (SecPessoas) to foster an innovative and inclusive approach to institutional budgeting.

The session also covered topics such as the historical context of gender equality in the public sector, government innovation, and the role of the UNDP Gender Equality Seal as a global tool for integration and innovation in public administration. TCU’s participation reaffirms its commitment to promoting inclusive public policies and gender-responsive governance, reinforcing its position as a reference in both Brazilian and international public administration.
