UN Conference on Harnessing Data to Combat Corruption

The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) participated online in the eleventh session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption (CoSP11), held in late December in Doha, Qatar. The event brought together government representatives, international organizations, and experts to discuss how data and statistics can strengthen national integrity and anti-corruption strategies.

Representing the Court, Hamilton Caputo, Deputy Head of the Department of Government Audit for Strategic Information and Innovation (Seinc), took part in the panel "Unlocking Data to Fuel National Anti-Corruption Strategies".

On this occasion, he presented the TCU's experience under the theme "How Supreme Audit Institutions Can Leverage New Technologies to Measure Corruption: Insights from Brazil".

His remarks emphasized two main pillars: the role of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) in assessing corruption risks and indicators, and the use of new technologies as tools to support public policymaking and oversight activities.

The event highlighted the systems and tools used by the TCU to map risks and detect signs of irregularities, as well as practical examples of artificial intelligence applications for this purpose, such as the Continuous Audit on Public Procurement and the LabContas Assist. Additionally, it addressed how these initiatives can contribute to the fight against corruption.
