On April 28, the President of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Minister Vital do Rêgo, met with the International Energy Agency (IEA) Executive Director, Fatih Birol. The meeting was held in Paris during an official mission by the Brazilian Court of Accounts in France.
The Permanent Representative of Brazil to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Ambassador Sarquis José Buainain Sarquis, also attended the meeting.
On that occasion, Minister Vital do Rêgo presented the Practical Guide to the Energy Transition, developed to support the oversight and monitoring of public policies to transition to a cleaner and more sustainable energy matrix. The guide addresses governance, social and economic impacts, and alignment of government actions with global mitigation and adaptation goals for climate change, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing vulnerable communities during this shift. Minister Vital also highlighted practical outcomes of the TCU's actions in Brazil.
“We had the opportunity to present Brazil’s experience with renewable energy, the platforms that make up the Energy Transition Guide, and the Court's work in this field. The TCU has been acting strategically to ensure that energy transition investments are efficient, sustainable, and transparent. Our role is to guarantee that the transition is grounded in fiscal responsibility, fairness, and focused on the public interest”, the President stated.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an autonomous organization affiliated with the OECD and serves as a global reference in energy policy. Its main objective is to promote energy security, sustainable development, and the transition to clean energy sources. The IEA provides data, analysis, and recommendations to guide governments and support action in areas such as energy efficiency, renewable energy, technological innovation, and carbon emissions reduction.
