On May 20, The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) attended the “80th Meeting of the Governing Board of the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS),” in Santiago, Chile. The TCU is a member of the OLACEFS Governing Board and chairs the Infrastructure and Energy Transitions Commission (Coinfra).

The President of the TCU, Minister Vital do Rêgo, presented the Court’s candidacy for the presidency of OLACEFS. The Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) to lead the organization from 2025 to 2028 will be elected in November during the “XXXIV OLACEFS General Assembly,” in Fortaleza, Brazil, from November 25 to 28.

During the announcement, the Minister highlighted the TCU’s extensive international trajectory, marked by the exchange of good practices and collaborative efforts with partner institutions. He also emphasized the insights gained through the TCU’s leadership role within the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), which deepened the Court’s understanding of the challenges faced by SAIs in today’s dynamic and interconnected world.

“Our vision for leading the organization centres on delivering consistent and proactive support to all SAIs in the region, guided by the principle of ‘leave no one behind.’ We seek to strengthen dialogue among member institutions, ensure effective and continuous communication, and expand collaboration with external partners— all with the goal of maximizing the public value of our initiatives,” said the President.

The TCU’s proposal for the OLACEFS presidency is structured around four strategic pillars: driving digital transformation, with a particular focus on cybersecurity and digital inclusion; promoting gender equality by encouraging female leadership and inclusive practices; fostering sustainable development with a focus on energy transition and climate change; and strengthening citizen participation by involving society in the oversight of public policies.

The President emphasized that the proposal is open to contributions from other SAIs to foster a collaborative approach. “We recognize the magnitude of the challenges ahead, but we believe that with the support of all OLACEFS members, we can build a more inclusive, sustainable, and collaborative future for the region. This candidacy is not just an institutional initiative, but a commitment to the values we share and the positive impact we can achieve together, while respecting the unique qualities of each member of this organization,” said Vital.
