TCU's AI Center Showcases Innovation at Conferences in Brazil

By Secom / Serint

Researchers from the Artificial Intelligence Center (NIA), part of the Department of Information Technology and Digital Evolution (Setid), have been selected to present their work at leading scientific events in Brazil and abroad. The studies, focused on Generative Artificial Intelligence, will be featured at the 35th Brazilian Conference on Intelligent Systems (BRACIS) and its sub-event STIL, both in Fortaleza, as well as at the 2025 IEEE International Conference on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) in Vienna, Austria.

TCU auditor Monique Monteiro will present the paper Pre-trained Code Language Models for Just-in-Time Software Defect Prediction: An Empirical Study at BRACIS, offering a comparative analysis of language models for real-time software defect detection. At SMC 2025, the focus will be on incremental learning with Small Language Models (SLMs), the subject of the paper Offline and Continual Just-In-Time Software Defect Prediction with Pre-Trained Language Models.

Solutions architect Luís Felippe Carvalho will present at STIL the study Benchmarking Large Language Models for Text-to-SQL in Brazilian Portuguese and English , which evaluates 17 models for natural language queries to databases in Portuguese and English.

The participation of TCU staff in these events underscores the institution's commitment to digital transformation and the adoption of innovative technology practices. Direct involvement in high-level scientific tracks contributes to improving the quality of the software developed by the Court, with advances in defect detection during development and in expanding access to structured data through natural language.

These initiatives bring tangible benefits to TCU's oversight and support areas, while also strengthening the institution's role as a reference in applied research and technological innovation in the public sector. All these efforts in technical development and innovation are directly reflected in the results delivered to society.
