International conference debates measures for poverty alleviation
Moderated by TCU auditor Ângelo Henrique Lopes da Silva, head of the Actuarial and Statistical Service (SAE) of the Department of External Control – Social Security, Labor and Welfare (SecexPrevidência), the meeting held the discussion of three relevant topics regarding poverty, especially in the context of overcoming the Covid-19 pandemic.
The SAIs addressed topics such as “The existence of multi-dimensional poverty measurement”, “Public policies for poverty reduction” and “Poverty alleviation measures during the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Overall, 21 representatives from the 5 countries participated in the Conference, 3 from Brazil, 14 from Russia, 1 from India, 1 from China, and 2 from South Africa, with simultaneous interpretation available for the presenters.
Among the points highlighted by the TCU, there is the non-adoption of the multidimensional poverty index by the Brazilian government, the current gap between Brazil’s poverty threshold compared to other countries, the inefficiency of the social protection system to eradicate poverty, and, finally, inclusion and exclusion errors in the emergency aid program.
