The President of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) and Chair of  the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), Minister Bruno Dantas, met on April 15 with the President of the Italian Court of Audit (Corte dei Conte), Guido Carlino, at the institution's headquarters in Rome.

During the meeting, Dantas thanked Italy for its support for the creation of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions with Jurisdictional Functions (JuriSAI), an initiative formalized in February in Morocco. On that occasion, the country endorsed France's consultation on the proposal to convert the former forum into a new organization.

The Minister emphasized the importance of JuriSAI as a space in expanding the defense and visibility of the jurisdictional function of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs), considering that 25% of INTOSAI members are involved in this role. The jurisdictional activities of SAIs involve auditing financial accounts and administration of civil servants and managers of public funds, as well as investigating personal culpability and imposing sanctions on those accountable for irregularities in the management of resources and operations.

"We need to strengthen the establishment of benchmarks for SAIs with jurisdictional functions. This is a crucial task if we are to ensure the independence and credibility of these institutions. We are grateful for Corte dei Conte's renewed commitment and willingness to assist us in this mission," said Dantas.

The President of SAI Italy commended the initiative to create JuriSAI and expressed Italy's interest in supporting its consolidation.

The first term of JuriSAI will be chaired by France, with the first assembly set for early May in Paris. The organization's proposed statute, drafted by France, Ecuador, Morocco, Brazil, and Portugal, will be sent to all member countries for consideration.

Italy will adopt ClimateScanner

The ClimateScanner was also a point of discussion among the authorities. Carlino  confirmed Italy's commitment to adopting the tool . Sixty-six countries already signed it last month in New York. Italy will also take part in the training workshop for its implementation, scheduled to be held in Prague (Czech Republic), in early June. The  results will be presented in Azerbaijan during COP29, the United Nations (UN) Climate Conference, in November.

Dantas invited Carlino to attend the SAI20 Annual Summit in Belém (PA) from June 17 to 19. During the summit, discussions will focus on the role of SAIs in addressing hunger and poverty, promoting climate finance, and facilitating the energy transition, reflecting Brazil's G20 presidency agenda.
