ClimateScanner Meeting in Brasília Discusses progress and challenges for 2025
From October 15 to 18, the Serzedello Corrêa Institute (ISC) for Capacity Building will host the Executive Group meeting of ClimateScanner, a global initiative to monitor and evaluate governmental actions to tackle climate change. Aiming to consolidate the accomplishments to date and establish the strategic plans for 2025the meeting will include representatives from the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), alongside specialists from the Thünen Institute and the World Resources Institute (WRI) Brazil.
The meeting will serve as a preparation for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 29), to be held in Azerbaijan, where the first outcomes and recommendations from the platform will be presented. The opening will be spearheaded by TCU Minister Vital do Rêgo and representatives from BNDES, IDB, and UNDP.
Key topics include improving the presentation of ClimateScanner data with an emphasis on collaboration between the Climate Watch platform and other existing tools.
To emphasize the significance of regional collaboration, experts from the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Pro PALOP-TL ISC, the African Organization of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E), and the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI), will discuss the challenges faced in various regions of the word.
ABOUT CLIMATESCANNER
ClimateScanner is an initiative led by the presidency of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), chaired by the TCU, in partnership with the Working Group on Environmental Auditing (WGEA).
Its main objective is to develop a methodology that allows Supreme Audit Institutions to conduct rapid assessments of national governments' actions related to the climate crisis, focusing on three key areas: governance, financing, and public policies.
ClimateScanner is supported by BNDES, IDB, the World Bank, UNDESA, and UNDP.
The ClimateScanner Executive Group is responsible for defining strategies, approaches, and activities for the platform. The group includes Supreme Audit Institutions from the following countries: Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Slovakia, United States, Philippines, Finland, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Morocco, New Zealand, Kenya, United Kingdom, Thailand, and the European Court of Auditors.
