TCU Leads Creation of New Infrastructure and Energy Transition Committee within OLACEFS
The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) participated in the General Assembly of the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS), held in Panama City from October 22 to 25. During the event, the TCU proposed transforming the Working Group on Policy Auditing and Infrastructure Regulation (GTInfra), led by the Court, into a permanent committee.
GTInfra has now completed two years of work focused on the efficient oversight of infrastructure projects—a crucial issue for the development in Latin America and the Caribbean. In his address, the President of the TCU, Minister Bruno Dantas, underscored the importance of establishing the Infrastructure and Energy Transition Committee (COINFRA). “The new committee will deepen and structure the work already initiated, linking infrastructure to the essential role of energy transition, strengthening our institutions to face climate challenges in line with the United Nations 2030 Agenda,” explained the President.
The OLACEFS General Assembly also featured discussions on key topics, such as “Data Science and Artificial Intelligence as Development and Transformation Tools for Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs),” and “Educational Challenges to Promote Equitable and Quality Education in Latin America and the Caribbean.”
On October 25, Dantas opened the administrative session, emphasizing education as a foundational pillar for regional development. “Education is the pillar upon which we build just and prosperous societies. It is the foundation that shapes the future of any nation. And we, as responsible for overseeing public resources, have the duty to ensure that educational policies fulfil their objectives, reaching everyone equitably, leaving no one behind,” he stated.
President Dantas also noted the data on education in the region is alarming and stressed the need for SAIs to work together to address this reality.
Furthermore, Ministers Vital do Rêgo, Jorge Oliveira, and Augusto Nardes also took part in the discussions, sharing their insights on topics addressed at the Assembly, such as the impact of climate change and the adoption of innovative technologies in administrative auditing.
The TCU's participation in the OLACEFS General Assembly reinforces its institutional commitment to improving public policies and fostering international cooperation, aiming to strengthen governance in Latin America and the Caribbean.
In 2025, the TCU will host the assembly and will be a candidate for the organization's presidency for the 2026–2028 term. As host of the event, the Court will also take a seat on the Governing Board starting in January of the coming year.
