TCU strengthens International Leadership at Internal Control Meetings in Luxembourg

From June 24 to 27, the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) participated in a series of meetings held at the European Court of Auditors (ECA) headquarters in Luxembourg. The delegation attended sessions of the INTOSAI Subcommittee on Internal Control Standards (ICS) and the Steering Committee of the INTOSAI Professional Standards Committee (PSC-SC). The TCU delegation was led by Minister Antonio Anastasia, who represented both the Chairmanship of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and the Vice-Chairmanship of the PSC. alongside advisor Jairo Cordeiro and Michel Cohen, Director of the Department of International Relations.

The event brought together representatives from INTOSAI’s key governance bodies, including standards committees, members of the Forum for INTOSAI Professional Pronouncements (FIPP), leaders of the five initiatives of INTOSAI’s Strategic Development Plan 2023–2028 (SDP), and the General Secretariat of the organization.

Minister Anastasia delivered the opening remarks at both meetings, reaffirming the TCU’s commitment to strengthening international audit standards and addressing emerging issues such as artificial intelligence and sustainability.

On June 24 and 25, during the ICS meeting, participants discussed updates to internal control guidelines, cooperation between internal and external auditors, and the subcommittee’s contributions to INTOSAI’s Strategic Development Plan (SDP).

At the 27th Meeting of the Steering Committee - PSC-SC, held on June 26 and 27, the TCU played a dual role as Vice-Chair and member of the Secretariat. The Court contributed to shaping the 2026–2028 work plans and engaged in thematic discussions on key topics, including the implementation of International Standards for Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAIs), the application of AI, and sustainability reporting.

The mission also included bilateral meetings with ECA President Tony Murphy and PSC Chair Helga Berger. These discussions focused on future cooperation opportunities, including the dissemination of developed tools, support for specific initiatives, and coordination strategies within INTOSAI’s Policy, Finance and Administration Committee (PFAC).
