The Federal Court of Accounts of Brazil (TCU) stood out during the General Assembly of the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS), held in late October in Panama. With an impressive showcase of advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and data science technologies, the Head of the Department for Information Technology and Digital Evolution, Rainério Rodrigues Leite, represented the Court at the Ciencia de Datos e Inteligencia Artificial como Herramienta de Desarrollo y Transformación para las Entidades Fiscalizadoras Superiores seminar.
In his presentation, the Head of the Department introduced ChatTCU, an AI tool developed by the TCU that employs natural language processing to enhance control and oversight processes while also boosting internal efficiency. This solution, based on a large language model, uses technology to manage vast volumes of data, providing real-time answers from audited data and audit inquiries. ChatTCU was recognized as an innovative tool, positioning the TCU at the technological forefront among its OLACEFS peers.
Rainério Leite emphasized the importance of integrating AI and data science into the operations of audit institutions, underscoring that innovation is essential to address auditing challenges in the digital era. "The TCU's participation in the event facilitated a valuable exchange of knowledge and experiences about the challenges and opportunities of digital transformation for the region's supreme audit institutions," he noted. Topics discussed included audit task automation, predictive data analysis, and the ethical implications of AI use, such as transparency and data protection.
The TCU's involvement in the seminar underscored its ongoing institutional commitment to innovation and the adoption of new technologies to improve efficiency and transparency in its activities. The implementation of ChatTCU is just one example of how the Court leverages artificial intelligence to transform its work and set an example for other audit institutions in the region.
In addition to presenting ChatTCU, the Court contributed to discussions on educational challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean, coordinating technical panels on how Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) can promote equitable, high-quality education.
