TCU Initiates Audit of UN Peacekeeping Mission in Cyprus
The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) has initiated auditing the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) in Nicosia. As a member of the UN Board of Auditors, the TCU is taking another important step in its international cooperation efforts. The scope of the audit covers financial and management practices of the UNFICYP mission, ensuring efficiency, transparency, and proper use of resources in UN peacekeeping operations.
The audit team, led by Lucas Ferreira and Renata Carvalho, held the initial meeting in Nicosia. The on-site team in Cyprus, consisting of Luiza Machado, Regivalder da Silva, Robson dos Santos, and Vinícius de Alencar, will evaluate UNFICYP's operations and management.
The meeting included remote participation from Eduardo Fávero, Camila Dourado, Maurício Wanderley, and Tiago Dutra of the Department of External Control for the United Nations (SecexONU).
UNFICYP was established in 1964, with the primary objective of preventing the recurrence of conflict between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities and maintaining peace and security on the island. Today, UNFICYP is the oldest UN mission and plays a crucial role in maintaining stability in Cyprus.
