UN Board of Auditors Concludes Meeting with 18 Reports Approved

Reports signed by Brazil, France, and China present recommendations to improve governance and accountability across the United Nations system

The 79th Regular Session of the United Nations Board of Auditors concluded on July 23, after two days of discussions in New York. The Heads of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) of Brazil, Minister Vital do Rêgo; of France, Pierre Moscovici; and of China, Hou Kai, signed 18 audit reports covering work conducted in 2024.

The reports will now be submitted to the UN General Assembly (UNGA) and include recommendations to improve governance and accountability across the UN system.

Expressing his satisfaction with the outcomes, Minister Vital do Rêgo affirmed: "International cooperation is essential to support the UN80 transformation project." This initiative seeks to modernize the organization's administrative and operational structures, better preparing it to face the challenges of the 21st century.

Looking ahead to its 80th anniversary in 2025, the UN80 project seeks to enhance efficiency, transparency, and accountability throughout the United Nations' entire structure. This initiative includes integrated reforms across governance, management processes, digital transformation, and resource utilization, all designed to make the UN more agile, modern, and better equipped to fulfil its mandate in response to emerging global demands.
