Minister Augusto Nardes, representing the President of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), Minister Vital do Rêgo, attended the 100th anniversary celebration of Albania's Supreme Audit Institution (ALSAI) in Tirana from May 19 to 22. His speech emphasized the importance of effective and responsible governance. For him, the centennial of the Supreme Audit Institution is more than a historical milestone, it is a call to action for transparency and sound public financial management.
In his remarks, Minister Augusto Nardes praised ALSAI’s inspiring history, which demonstrates the essential role of audit institutions in ensuring effective public policies, particularly in a global context marked by complex challenges such as climate change. He also praised Albania’s engagement in multilateral initiatives, including the ClimateScanner, an innovative tool developed by the TCU to monitor climate-related government actions.
Augusto Nardes stressed that the fight against climate change requires a coordinated international effort, with audit institutions playing a critical role in this process. He underscored the need to strengthen transparency and accountability, especially regarding climate finance, to ensure that resources are used effectively and equitably.
Nardes also reflected on the importance of international cooperation, noting that the responsibility for tackling climate change cannot rest solely with governments or the private sector. All actors, including audit institutions, must come together to confront this global challenge.
At the end of his speech, the Minister congratulated ALSAI on its 100-year legacy and reaffirmed TCU’s commitment to building a future where audit institutions play a key role in enhancing public administration, making it more ethical, efficient, and people-centered. His visit and speech in Tirana mark an important step forward in international cooperation on oversight and governance.
