Meeting in Lisbon Strengthens Cooperation Between Brazil and Portuguese-Speaking Countries
TCU meeting with the CPLP Executive Secretariat focused on strengthening cooperation among audit institutions in Portuguese-speaking countries

On August 14, the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) participated in a meeting with the Executive Secretariat of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP), in Lisbon, Portugal. The mission, led by the president of the TCU, Minister Vital do Rêgo, focused on strengthening cooperation among audit institutions of the countries are part of the community.

At CPLP headquarters, the TCU delegation met with the organization's Secretary General, Ambassador Maria de Fátima Monteiro, who serves a term from 2025 to 2027. The meeting reinforced the dialogue between the CPLP and the institutions responsible for overseeing the management of public resources in Portuguese-speaking countries.
Since the creation of the Organization of the Supreme Audit Institutions of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (OISC/CPLP), the TCU has served as the entity's General Secretariat. In this capacity, the Court acts as a communication channel among member institutions, coordinates cooperation initiatives, and supports training activities, the exchange of experiences, and the conduct of joint audits.

In recent years, the OISC/CPLP has developed initiatives on topics such as protected areas, gender-based violence, climate change, and women's participation in leadership positions.
"The Portuguese language brings us together, but this relationship can go much further. We have institutions with diverse experiences and plenty of knowledge to share. Strengthening this cooperation also means strengthening the capacity of public institutions to deliver better results for society", stated President Vital do Rêgo.
The OISC/CPLP is also responsible for auditing the accounts of the Executive Secretariat of the developed initiatives on topics and the International Portuguese Language Institute (IILP). These accounts are submitted annually to the Organization's General Secretariat, a role performed by the TCU, and analyzed by the audit institutions designated for this function.
The agenda in Lisbon underscores the TCU's commitment to international cooperation and the importance of the exchange of experiences between audit institutions of Portuguese-speaking countries.
