Minister Vital Meets with the Secretary-General of the Organization of Ibero-American States

On February 13, Minister Vital do Rêgo, the President of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), held a meeting with Mariano Jabonero, the Secretary-General of the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), and Rodrigo Rossi, the OEI’s Cooperation Coordinator in Brazil. Mariano Jabonero is currently visiting Brazil to engage in a series of discussions with national authorities.
The OEI is an international cooperation organization comprising Portuguese and Spanish speaking Ibero-American countries. Its mission is to promote the development of education, science, and culture in the region.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General provided an overview of the OEI's activities in Brazil. He emphasized the organization's involvement in the preparations for the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled to be held in Belém, Pará, in November 2025.
Minister Vital, in response, underscored TCU's role in monitoring public policies related to education, culture, and sustainability. He also highlighted the ClimateScannerproject, an initiative led by the TCU in its capacity as Chair of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).
Also in attendance were the General Secretary for Government Audit, Juliana Pontes; the Secretary for Institutional Relations, Manoel Moreira; the Secretary for Sustainable Development Oversight, Vanessa Lopes de Lima; and the Chief Auditor of the Specialized Audit Unit for Education, Culture, Sports, and Human Rights (AudEducação), Renata Silveira Carvalho.
The technical team provided an overview of some of the TCU’s key areas of work, including the assessment of public policies for early childhood development, performance evaluations of federal public universities regarding their teaching and research objectives, and the monitoring of Brazil’s National Education Plan (PNE).
