In November, later this year, the Federal Court of Accounts - Brazil (TCU) will take on the chairmanship of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI). The institution is autonomous, independent, professional, and apolitical and has, among its objectives, to act as the recognized voice of the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) worldwide. 

Considering the global reach of INTOSAI, responsible for issuing standards and guidelines that guide government audit activities and procedures, the vice president of TCU, Minister Bruno Dantas, met last Wednesday, May 25th, with the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), Mr. António Guterres. 

During the meeting, the Minister of the Brazilian Court of Accounts invited the UN leader to participate in the XXIV International Congress of Supreme Audit Institutions (INCOSAI), which will take place from November 7 to 11 at Expo MAG, in Rio de Janeiro, and also to deliver a speech during the event. 

In addition, he presented Brazil's plans as chair of the international organization for the period 2022-2025, in order to identify possibilities for joint actions. SAI Brazil’s Minister was accompanied by the Secretary-General of Intosai, Dr. Margit Kraker, and by heads of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAI) from the following countries: Dr. Harib Al Amimim, United Arab Emirates; Mr. Hesham Badawy, Egypt; and Mr. Jorge Bermúdez, Chile. 

incosai_logo.pngThe agenda with representatives of the United Nations continued Thursday, May 26th. Minister Bruno Dantas presented to the head of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations (UNDESA), Mr. Liu Zhenmin, the SAIs and Intosai as relevant institutions to support countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and highlighted the ones that will be prioritized during the Brazilian tenure as chair of the international entity: 

  1. No poverty 
  2. Zero hunger and sustainable agriculture 
  3. Gender equality 
  4. Climate action 

About the XXIV INCOSAI – INCOSAI is a deliberative assembly, where INTOSAI’s strategic decisions are taken. The congress takes place every three years for the exchange of experiences, discussion of issues, approval of resolutions and recommendations to improve administrative and fiscal accountability of governments around the world.
