On May 13, in New York, Minister Vital do Rêgo, President of the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), and Minister Walton Alencar Rodrigues met with teams from the AuditaONU project conducting audits at the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women).
During the meeting, project coordinators presented progress updates and preliminary findings from the ongoing audits. President Vital do Rêgo emphasized the strategic role of the AuditaONU project to strengthening the Brazilian government audit system. He also reaffirmed the continuation of the staff rotation model, which broadens participation and promotes the dissemination of knowledge acquired in the international environment.
He further stressed the importance of offering opportunities to a wide range of auditors from the TCU, the State Courts of Accounts (TCEs), and the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU), thereby encouraging the exchange of experiences and the incorporation of diverse perspectives into the work.
Minister Walton Alencar Rodrigues, who oversaw the project during its initial two-year period, praised the technical quality of the audits and highlighted the recognition Brazil has earned within the United Nations as a result of the teams performance.
Both ministers also emphasized the rigor of the auditor selection process. According to Vital do Rêgo, each team member was selected based on technical expertise and the ability to translate international experience into tangible benefits for the country.
At the end of the meeting, the auditors shared reflections on their professional and personal experiences throughout the project. In a spirit of camaraderie and recognition, the discussion highlighted the teams commitment to excellence and the positive impact of Brazil's participation in the UN Board of Auditors.
