OLACEFS Hosts Webinar on Citizen Participation in Latin America
The meeting, taking place on July 16, aims to strengthen the capacities of Supreme Audit Institutions

The Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU), through the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS) and its Citizen Participation Commission, will host the webinar Citizen Participation in Oversight: Experiences from Latin America on July 16, starting at 11:00 a.m. (Brasília time), on its official YouTube channel.
The event aims to promote technical dialogue and the exchange of practical experiences in citizen participation in order to strengthen the capacities of Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs). Through this initiative, the TCU seeks to enhance public governance and contribute to more effective, transparent, and citizen-centered oversight.
The webinar will feature the presentation Challenges, Advances, and Opportunities for Citizen Participation by Professor Marcos Mendiburu, a UNESCO consultant and internationally recognized expert in the field. He will discuss international trends, emerging challenges, and opportunities to transform citizen participation into tangible results that enhance oversight processes and accountability.
The program will also include a panel discussion with representatives from OLACEFS member SAIs:
Argentina: Participatory Planning and the Citizen Participation Mechanisms Derived from This Practice Andrea Salgueiro and Silvia La Ruffa.
Colombia: Incomplete Public Works in Latin America: Engaging Citizens to Ensure Rights Protection Andrea Rodríguez.
Brazil: Citizen Participation at the TCU: A Strategic Approach Maria Paula Estellita Lins.
Following the presentations, participants will have the opportunity to engage in a question-and-answer session and a debate moderated by Professor Marcos Mendiburu.
