OLACEFS Launches Coordination Network to Strengthen Regional Cooperation

TCU's presidency of the organization paves the way for a new network focused on institutional dialogue

By Secom / Serint

In its first year at the helm of the Organization of Latin American and Caribbean Supreme Audit Institutions (OLACEFS), the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) announced the launch of the OLACEFS Coordination Network on 10 June. This strategic initiative is designed to strengthen internal dialogue, enhance institutional coordination, and raise the organization's profile and visibility at both the regional and international levels.

Coordinated by the TCU's Department of International Relations in response to the needs of the OLACEFS Presidency, the Network is intended to serve as a collaborative forum that brings the organization's various bodies closer together. The initiative seeks to increase the impact of ongoing and future activities through a framework of regular meetings involving TCU cooperation focal points, technical focal points, and representatives of OLACEFS bodies. The goal is to foster institutional synergies and expand the reach of joint initiatives.

Within the TCU, the Network was officially introduced during an online meeting held on 12 June with the participation of the Court's management units. Participants welcomed the initiative as a practical way to strengthen ties between technical representatives from both OLACEFS and the TCU while promoting greater knowledge sharing.

In this context, the OLACEFS Presidency proposed a schedule of regular online meetings with the Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) that chair the Organization's Committees and Commissions. It emphasized that the consolidation of the Network will be achieved through a collaborative process carried out in close coordination with the technical units involved.

First Steps

The first meeting of the OLACEFS Coordination Network took place on 16 June with the Legal Advisory Committee (CAJ), chaired by SAI Paraguay. Through targeted monitoring of the Annual Operational Plan (AOP), participants identified opportunities to strengthen mutual cooperation in updating the OLACEFS Regulations. CAJ representatives also outlined ongoing efforts to prepare the Committee's Terms of Reference and Functions Manual, among other initiatives.

On 23 June, the Network met with the Capacity Building Committee (CCC), chaired by SAI Chile. Discussions focused on strategies to advance the committee's task forces, with particular emphasis on learning pathways in areas such as digital transformation, public procurement, and the environment. Participants also identified opportunities to improve communication with member SAIs and increase participation in capacity-building initiatives, highlighting challenges in disseminating information that affects SAI engagement. The CCC Presidency concluded by underscoring the importance of strengthening member engagement and establishing mechanisms to monitor ongoing activities.

Next steps

Additional meetings are scheduled for June with the Gender, Inclusion and Diversity Commission (CGID) and the Technical Commission on Good Governance Practices (CTPBG).

A progress report on the activities carried out under the Coordination Network will be presented at the OLACEFS General Assembly, scheduled to take place in Colombia in August.
