SecexONU presents audit results to the United Nations Population Fund Oversight Committee

On April 11, the Oversight Advisory Committee of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA)met with the team from the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) responsible for auditing the Fund's accounts. The objective was to present the results of audits conducted at UNFPA by the TCU audit team within the scope of the UN Board of Auditors.

Maurício de Albuquerque Wanderley, Director of External Audit of the TCU at the UN, presented the scope of the audits conducted and planned, and emphasized the importance of collaborative action between oversight bodies within UNFPA to help strengthen the institution.

Guilherme Christian Roth, leader of the financial audit team at UNFPA, and João Ricardo Pereira, leader of the management audit team at UNFPA, presented the key findings from the audits conducted so far, highlighted the most relevant risks identified, outlined the planning for the final financial audit mission, and provided an update on the implementation status of the Board’s previous recommendations to the organization.

 After the presentations, Committee members asked questions to learn more about the findings and highlighted the quality and depth of the preliminary results presented by the audit teams.

Also attending the meeting in person were Deputy Directors Tiago Dutra and Ana Paula Sampaio, and remotely, the Head of the Department for Auditing UN Operations (SecexONU), Eduardo Favero, Deputy Head of the Department Camila Dourado, and Supervisor Alessandra Pereira Melo.

About the OAC

The Oversight Advisory Committee (OAC) is the fiduciary oversight body of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and assists the Executive Director in fulfilling oversight and accountability responsibilities. Additionally, it has direct access to the UNFPA Executive Board to address matters within its remit.

The OAC is composed of five members with extensive experience and solid reputations in international organizations, financial management, and auditing. Currently, it includes experts who have held executive positions at the UN, such as former Assistant Secretary-General Stephen Cutts; former Controller and Chief Financial Officer of the UN Secretariat, Bettina Tucci Bartsiotas; and former Chief Financial Officer of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, Kumiko Matsuura-Mueller.

The committee also includes members with extensive experience in auditing and oversight of international organizations, such as former World Bank Vice President and former President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), Fayezul Choudhury, and former President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and former UNICEF advisor, Kamlesh Vikamsey.
