On June 4, TCU participated in the international event Anticipating Future Crime and Security Risks: Foresight Approaches for Public Safety Governance, held during the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna, Austria. The meeting brought together experts from international organizations and representatives of public institutions to discuss future challenges related to public safety and criminal justice.
Representing TCU, Raphael de Almeida, head of the Audit Division for Strategic Public Security Initiatives (Diasp/AudDefesa), presented the results of the foresight study A Safer Future , a structured approach used to explore possible futures and identify trends, risks, and opportunities. The study was developed by the Court in partnership with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Brazil and other partner institutions.
The study employs participatory and evidence-based methodologies to analyze public safety challenges through 2045, identifying emerging risks such as cybercrime, disinformation, climate-related threats, organized crime, and artificial intelligence.
The event also enabled the exchange of experiences on approaches to anticipating future risks and challenges, with a focus on strengthening crime prevention, criminal justice systems, and international cooperation. In addition to TCU, representatives from UNODC and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) participated.
