AUDITA ONU

The AuditaONU project website is now live. This initiative showcases Brazil's role in the external audit of the United Nations. The platform, available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, brings together news, documents, reports, and information on the Brazil's work carried out within the UN Board of Auditors.

Brazil is currently serving on the United Nations Board of Auditors through the Brazilian Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) for the 2024 2030 term. This is the first time the country has participated in the body responsible for auditing the use of resources by the Organization's funds, programs, offices, and peacekeeping operations in various regions worldwide.

These audits are conducted under the AuditaONU Project and are coordinated by the TCU's Secretariat for External Control of the United Nations. They involve teams from various divisions within the court. The initiative also benefits from the collaboration of partner institutions within Brazil's public oversight system, including the Office of the Comptroller General (CGU) and state and municipal courts of accounts.

Through the portal, visitors can learn how the United Nations audit system operates, understand Brazil's role on the Board of Auditors, and follow the country's activities within international organizations. Brazil receives reimbursement from the United Nations every quarter for costs incurred in carrying out audit activities.

Leadership and Representation

Brazil is currently responsible for auditing the following entities: UNICEF, UN Women, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the United Nations University (UNU), the United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF), the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT), and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Brazil is also responsible for auditing peacekeeping operations in countries including Cyprus, Lebanon, and Kosovo.

During the first two years of its term, more than 120 auditors participated in audit assignments in 23 countries. These audits assess financial, operational, and compliance aspects, focusing on good governance, transparency, and the efficient management of resources administered by the United Nations.

The Board of Auditors comprises three member states. Brazil, France, and China currently serve on the Board. Each member serves a six-year term and submits reports to the United Nations General Assembly containing recommendations aimed at strengthening the Organization's management and internal control systems.

In addition to expanding Brazil's participation in multilateral organizations, Brazil's work on the Board promotes the exchange of experiences with oversight institutions from other countries and enhances audit practices adopted by the TCU.

The AuditaONU project website is available in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.
