TCU monitors governmental actions on climate change
A monitoring made by the Federal Court of Accounts – Brazil (TCU) indicates that the Federal Government has already implemented or is still implementing a major part of the recommendations suggested by the Court of Accounts regarding actions to adapt the many sectors of economy to the impacts of climate change.
Among the monitored recommendations, there is, for example, the incentive to farmers to have access to credit lines focused on the preservation and recovery of the Amazon Rainforest (considered already implemented); the adaptation of support activities to environmentally differentiated settlements, especially when it comes to technical assistance to those living in settlements (being implemented); and the definition of enough budgetary resources for the execution of the actions from the Environmental Action Plan (not implemented).
The actions are related to governmental policies destined to the Amazon (Court Decision 2.293/2009-Full Court); to coastal areas (Court Decision 2.354/2009-Full Court); to the agricultural sector (Court Decision 2.513/2009-Full Court); and to assuring water safety in the semiarid region (2.462/2009-Full Court).
